Islam Week

Published: 12 Mar '25

In RE, we have been learning about Islam. See below for what the different classes have been doing to learn about this religion.

Thank you to Ms Ali and Ms Asia who have been sharing their religion with us.

Year 2 had a special visit from Ms Ali who told the children about how Muslims pray. She spoke to the children about different ways they pray, the call to prayer and different objects used for prayer. The children played ‘simon says’ to show the different actions that are used for Wudhu. After, the children designed their own prayer mats. Thank you to Ms Ali for joining us to share her religion.

Year 4 had Ms Ali visiting. She shared important information about the muslim holy book the Qur'an. Did you know that the Qur'an has 114 Chapters and there is one whole chapter dedicated to Virgin Mary?

Children in Year 4 also attempted writing their own name using Arabic letters with our lovely Student Teacher Ms Perritano.

This week, we have been celebrating Islam in RE. Our focus has been around Ramadan, an Islamic celebration where Muslims around the world take part in fasting to worship their God, Allah. Ms. Asia very kindly treated the class to the beautiful art of Henna, an Islamic tradition. All the Year 5 children had the opportunity to have a beautiful design drawn onto their hands. In Islamic culture, henna (also known as mehndi) is used for both decorative and symbolic purposes, particularly in weddings and celebrations. It is believed to bring good luck and protection. A huge thank you to Ms. Asia for sharing this wonderful part of her culture with us!
