It was lovely to see so many parents in attendance at our End of Year Mass. We had a tribute to Ms Glass and our Year 6 pupils and parents and many a tear was shed.
Our school year is coming to conclusion and so today we gather together as a school Community to celebrate and give thanks for all the blessings we have received.
For our Year 6 children, it is also the end of their time at Primary School. It is a time for them to remember and to look forward to new schools, new friends and new beginnings.
We are also here to celebrate the incredible contributions of Kathy Glass, who has dedicated 25 years of exemplary service to our school. Her journey with us has been marked by unwavering commitment, professionalism and dedication to our school community.
For a quarter of a century, Kathy has been the heartbeat of our school. Her efficiency in managing the day-to-day operations has ensured that our school runs smoothly.
The perfect combination of empathy and assertiveness; she said what she felt and we felt what she said because everything with Kathy is genuine and authentic. Kathy is known for her direct and honest approach, always addressing issues head-on with clarity and fairness, which has earned her respect and admiration from everyone who has had the privilege of working with her.
Kathy started as a parent volunteer, cleaner, midday meals supervisor, teaching assistant, receptionist, admin officer and finally, one of the toughest jobs in any school – Attendance Officer.
As she retires, we are reminded of the profound impact Kathy has had on our school community. The heart of our school, a constant source of stability and compassion. We are grateful for her many years of service and wish her all the joy and relaxation she so richly deserves in her retirement.
Our Year 5 pupils also spoke touchingly as they shared their memories of Ms Glass. We learnt that Ms Glass not only had all the above roles but was also a storyteller, nurse and entertainer!
The Mass ended with a beautiful and heartfelt speech from Ms Francois:
You have covered many roles in OLSJ. Cleaner, mms, TA, the face of OLSJ in the office and also agony aunt. It is hard to imagine the school without you. Many, many memories made. And many valuable lessons and advice shared. Always sparing a thought for others and being mindful of situations. Your caring nature and first aid skills will be missed throughout the school as you can tell from what the children have said. Your smile and laughter will also be missed.
Your dedication, hard work and positive attitude with the school and church is one youshould be very proud of. All the years of going above and beyond will be remembered by many.
I think I should sign off now but to say I will miss you is an understatement. I wish you every happiness in Your next chapter. Enjoy every moment with your beautiful grandchildren and try to rest a little bit. So keep shining Miss Glass as you always have with Love, Kindness and Respect.
