Gardening club October 2017

Our keen gardeners have been sowing winter salad leaves, which they have harvested in time for half term. They also went on a seed hunt around the school, learning about how flowers turn into seed heads and collecting, sorting and labelling seeds such as Nigella, Marigold and Lavender so that they can be sown in the Spring. They’ve just started planting Spring bulbs, too, some of which they will sell to parents at the Gardening Club plant sale.

Year 3 also began gardening this term, beginning with cress. Some children were disappointed to discover that the snails and slugs that sometimes find their way into the greenhouse love to munch the seedlings! They hope to have more success with the parsley they have sown to take home.
