Year 5 “An Anthem for the 2012 Olympics” Project

Many of our Year 5s felt that they had particularly enjoyed their first taste of music technology last year and wanted to carry on in Year 5. They were looking for a bit of a challenge and got very fired up by the idea of writing an anthem for the 2012 London Olympics. For this project, our young composers had to learn a few more technical musical skills – how to compose a fanfare and how to create harmonies using string sounds. Rumour has it that their upcoming CD contains some pretty lively tracks!

Personal Best Sports!

Last year in Year 4, the current Year 5 did a music technology project called Dragon Scales. They learned how to use a program called Garage Band and used this to compose an atmospheric piece about Chinese Dragons. They then exported their compositions to iTunes and learned how to burn off a CD.  They also designed their own CD cover.
The following term they developed the skills that they had learned in the first term and composed another piece called Mission to Mars after listening to some pieces from Holst’s Planets Suite.
