Earlier this year we went to the London Wetlands Centre in Barnes - West London. We looked at the habitats of the World's Wetlands. From the mountain streams of New Zealand to the paddy-fields of South East Asia.

We walked through the 'Wildside' - many different lagoons, pools, lakes and reedbeds which attract dragonflies, amphibians & birds. We had to keep quiet near the bird hides. We had fun in the interactive water area...see the photos...

Netty - from the Wetlands Centre - talked to us about pond life

we all had a go at fishing for pond life

we looked...

...and caught loads of creatures

we had to put the creatures in the container quickly

water snails and leeches...

we identified what we had caught on a sheet of paper

we looked at them in more detail

inspected them closely

it was fascinating, especially the blood-sucking leeches

it's a good job it was sunny

we passed the watery creatures round the class

and scrutinised them

... thoroughly...

reeds act as filters for dirt in ponds

we shot plastic balls (dirt) into the reeds

and the reeds gobbled the dirt up

there was a flood (shower head) over a water plain

we diverted flood water as it fell from the mountains into the village

we squirted water into the wetlands and made animals appear

we looked at where water comes from

and how water is used (wasted?) on the earth
