Welcome to the Parents section of the site (formerly known as the Friends of the school). We are volunteer parents/carers of children at the school and we raise funds for the school and charities. Please do contact us if you can help in any way or indeed if you can't make the meetings but wish to help out. Contact your Class Representative below. We always welcome more volunteers. New nursery parents especially welcome. ANY PARENT WHO CAN OFFER A SKILL OR SERVICE TO THE SCHOOL is asked to contact either Mr Flood or a PA member listed below.

The newly-launched OLSJ Parents Association (PA) represents all parents and carers of the school, raising money and holding events to build a vibrant school community outside the classroom. We meet a couple of times a term to plan social events and other activities to benefit the school and our children, including the popular Christmas Craft Fair, Summer Party, Quiz Night, Pancake Party and Cake Sales throughout the year.

Money raised by the PA is invested in equipment, outings for children and other activities as requested by the head teacher. In recent years this has included new speakers and lighting for the school hall, playground equipment, bird tables for the school grounds as well as a contribution to children's charities.

In 2008 we are looking for new members who can come up with ideas and help run some of the fundraising and social events throughout the year. We’re grateful for whatever contribution you feel you can make and need representatives from ALL year groups from Nursery to Year 6.

A Taste of Africa

This year's Summer Party theme is "A Taste of Africa". The celebration will be on Friday 11 July at 6.30 till 9.30pm. The PA are planning an African Extravaganza with music, dance, drumming and fabulous ethnic food. The usual stalls will be there: BBQ, Tombola, Bouncy Castles, Hoopla, Coconut Shy etc. Be sure to buy your raffle tickets: top prizes are a Nintendo DS and an Apple laptop computer.

ALL OFFERS OF HELP ON THE DAY ARE GRATEFULLY RECEIVED!!

THE PA AND THE SCHOOL COUNCIL

We're forming a new parternership with the School Council who represent all the children in the school. Their ideas can be taken forward with a new impetus with the backing of PA members.

The next initiative is to create new areas and markings in the playground to make it a more exciting and imaginative environment. The children are currently coming up with new design ideas which will be presented to members of the PA.

FIND OUT MORE

If you would like to join in, please come along to the next meeting, or join the email list by sending your name and contact details to Katherine Mesquita at pa@olsjschool.net or pop in to the school community centre by the school car park for Friday Morning Coffee, every Friday at 9am.

When known as the Friends of the school a Constitution was drawn up detailing how the association operates. Click here for a pdf of this document or call Jo Bexley for more info: 07773781883.
