the school council go backback

Welcome to the School Council section of the site . The Council has been set up to give the children a VOICE and to share ideas about how to improve the school. Those interested in becoming a School Councillor make a speech indicating why they should be elected and the rest of their class vote for who they want as their Year representative.

Meetings are on Tuesday mornings where ideas are taken out of the Suggestion Boxes and discussed. The outcome is fed back to classes. Realistic and relevant ideas are taken forward by the Council who research the ideas and present to adults. Funds may then be made available by the school and/or the Parents Association.

Successful projects in the past include:

  • Fruit on Wednesday for the Juniors
  • Ongoing production of the School Magazine: OLSJ Today
  • Children in Need fundraising via Smoothie Stalls
  • Varous cake sales and stalls at the Xmas and Summer Fairs
Latest Minutes JUNE 2008:

The PA are to form a new partnership with the School Council who represent all the children in the school. Their ideas can be taken forward with a new impetus with the backing of Miss O'Donovan and PA members.

Topics under discussion:

The next initiative will be the design of new playground areas. The children are submitting designs involving new zones, markings and new games. The school and the PA will be providing funding for this project.

The School Playground Survey has produced some interesting results.

This is what KS1 would like to see in the playgrounds, facilities for: football, tennis, shooting the hoop, hopscotch, tag sppot, cricket markings, alphabet markings, distance markings, a painting wall and a reading zone on the prayer garden

This is what K2 would like to see in the playgrounds, facilities for: kingball, football, tennis, secured goal posts, cricket markings, free play area, painting wall

Developments will be posted shortly.

Apologies:
